An Observation
…after a week of footage from last Saturday’s No Kings march
The irony of the second No Kings rally, one that garnered repeated commentary from the Trump apologists, was that this was a gathering of old white people. Angry old white people. Boomers.
The images bore that up. Grey pates as far as the eye could see. Lots of paunchy bodies that nicely filled out all those poofy costumes of frogs and unicorns and whatnot. Really bad rhythm…
You might say that the aging boomers have finally found a trigger that draws them back to their radical roots. One that offers a safe space to feel those youthful energies of protest once again.
And safe it is. Because there is literally no question to debate here. This is not a politicized issue. This is not sided. We are not divided on this one point. There is little risk in showing up for this cause. Because it’s not a cause. It’s the foundation of this country. It’s the one thing we all agree upon and have from the start.
The only people who want an authoritarian rule under Trump (or some other drooling show puppet) are the very few who put Trump into power and those who sycophantically ride on his copious backside. And they are not numerous enough to effect that monarchical revolution.
You might also note that this No Kings demographic, aging white boomers, particularly aging white male boomers, these are the people who voted for this pathetic excuse for a demagogue. (Is a charismatic leader charismatic if he completely lacks any sort of charisma?…) This is, to a large extent, their fault, their failure, their problem. They put this thing in the White House. Did they really think that was going to go well? Even for their privileged selves?…
But what the pundits on the far right were trying to brush under the rug by calling these old white marchers silly with their costumes and their uncoordinated meandering through city streets was, I think, a deep fear… An Oh My Dear God! moment of earth-shaking proportions. They were sweating under that stage make-up. Their laughter was decidedly nervous, eyes darting around unable to meet the camera lens.
Because these marching old white people are the constituents of the far right. This is the demographic base of the far right. These are their people. And these old white people are turning, showing a bit of displeasure. At least inasmuch as they are letting it be known that they will not support autocracy… and they’d like their pensions and Social Security and Medicare to remain untouched, thank you very much… and maybe could we do something about the price of eggs…
In any case, I’m thinking the tone of this march probably has the Trumplets in a state of mild panic. Inasmuch as they are capable of logic and wading through their dense hubris to confront reality. This does not bode well for them, and they must be at least a little aware of that fact. Even an arrogant asshole has to understand that when you lose your support base, you’re going to fall from power. No matter what names you’ve slapped on yourself.
King of nobody is no king at all…
If the old white people are riled up enough to wear frog costumes in public and carry DIY signs through the streets, then the far right has definitely lost some crucial support.
Now… let’s see if they have the spine to vote this monstrosity out of the White House. Send all the Trumplets back to their basement rooms with Mama and shut down the pimply billionaire oligarchy. Preserve at least our sham semblance of democracy so that white folks can continue to cast their votes…
Yeah…
Somehow, I just don’t see that happening… What do you think?

Since you asked, I agree with both Emma and Eliza. If voting could change anything it would be illegal – so don’t hold your breath waiting for the midterms. I do take exception however, to blaming the aging white boomers for the mess that we are in. It started long before baby Trump took his first shit in America. How about 1607, when the first settler-colonists came to Jamestown? I’m giving the boomers a pass because politics isn’t a leader but a follower of what is happening in our culture, a pale reflection of how a society makes a living – see yesterday’s MSH. To come back to witchcraft and wage-slavery it’s all about the notion of right livelihood. And in that regard, the so-called politicians that have been running the show have quite frankly fouled up the home economy beyond all recognition. The result is that as a society American spirituality is in the toilet.
As an aside, there was a very informative article in Religion Dispatches talking about shit in the Bible.
Of Course It Was Shit in Trump’s No Kings AI Video — Calling it ‘Brown Sludge’ Misses the Religious Significance

If you must blame someone for the shit-storm that is now raging, I would point out the white-Christian nationalists. Combining religion and politics has always been a toxic and explosive mix. We can now see what happens when spirituality is defined as the merger of religion and white-male supremacy. For those who are looking for the silver lining in all this, I would suggest studying Gandhi. The Great Soul whose mobilization of non-religious spirituality, aka nonviolence, transformed reality – just like magic!

the “billionaire oligarchy” thrived with 4 years of Biden.
they will thrive with the next Dem POTUS after 2028 or 2032.
the West is a corporatocracy.
when you next go to a grocery store and continue to go through the winter, it is the work ethic that provided much of your winter food from farm to you.
especially due to the 100 daily “energy slaves” that FF has provided for you and billions of us.
but the surplus energy flowing through IC is no longer growing and will soon be in decline.
the average person MUST get ever poorer year after year for many decades.
degrowth will become unpleasant for most people in the next 25 years, and painful in the 2nd half of this century.
that’s what I think.

I agree. The idea that the next election will be free and fair is unlikely. They will not relinquish their power easily now that they have a strangle hold on it.
